Wallcoverings Bring the Bling!

Wallcoverings are one of the most requested design trends I am doing for my clients. It's a bit like paint in that it adds an instant punch of personality to any space. You can do wallpaper on one accent wall in larger rooms and in smaller spaces, like a powder bathroom I recommend doing every wall to give it some dramatic flair.
The options are endless when it comes to wallpaper choices. Grasscloth is still one of the most popular for its tactile texture and classy looks but new vendors have come into the business bringing an array of materials from cork, leathers, furs and wood.
I like to advise my clients to always go bolder when choosing their wallpaper or go very textural because it will make more of a statement in the room. It can be daunting to go darker than you are comfortable with, but especially in small areas like the powder bathroom, this is the place to really take some design risks.
Depending on your current wall texture and the wallpaper you choose you may not have to skim coat (smooth out the wall finish) the walls before installation begins. If you have a highly textured wall finish (orange peel or knock down) and the wallpaper you choose has more of a flat finish you would want to get the walls skim coated before you install as the texture will show through the paper. Its best to ask your designer or installer before you install since wallpaper is an investment.
Be warned, once you do install wallpaper and see the impact that is makes, you will be looking for the next room to wallpaper. Welcome to wallpaper addiction.
